City Build for 300+ at Wafi Energy (Shell Pakistan)

Published on 28-Feb-2026 by Hajrah Razvi

Client Context

When Wafi Energy (Shell Pakistan) hosted its company-wide annual conference, they were looking for an immersive team building experience for 340–360 delegates within a focused two-hour session.

The conference theme centred around Momentum — not simply moving fast, but moving forward together.

Having previously partnered with us at Catalyst Pakistan on large-scale programmes including Go Team, The Big Picture, BlockBusters, and The Infinite Loop, expectations were high. The client wanted something that would fully engage the entire audience while reinforcing alignment and shared direction across teams.

Programme Objectives

  • Actively involve every delegate
  • Reinforce cross-team alignment
  • Bring the conference theme to life in a tangible way
  • Deliver high energy and high impact within a tight timeframe

Our client needed a purposeful, immersive, and strategically aligned team building experience— not simply entertaining.

Our Approach

Activity: City Build

Participants: 340–360 delegates

Duration: 2 hours

Format: Large-scale collaborative construction challenge

To bring the Momentum theme to life, we transformed our City Build experience into a bespoke conference edition — Wafi City.

We carefully adapted the branding, narrative, and visual identity to reflect Wafi Energy’s scale, interdependence, and ecosystem. The result was a multi-district city engineered to mirror the organisation's complexity and collaboration dynamics.

Each team owned a different district. However, the city could only function if:

  • Roads connected seamlessly
  • Layouts aligned across zones
  • Decisions considered the wider system

This structure physically demonstrated how momentum is created:

Alignment first. Coordinated execution second.

Rather than discussing collaboration in theory, participants had to continuously communicate, adjust plans, and synchronise decisions as the shared city evolved in real time. No team could succeed in isolation. Progress required coordination, visibility, and shared accountability.

The design ensured full participation while reinforcing the practical realities of cross-functional collaboration.

Outcomes & Impact

By the end of the session, delegates had constructed a fully integrated city measuring 24 ft by 15 ft.

The level of creativity and attention to detail was exceptional. Teams thoughtfully designed their sections to function within the wider city, prioritising integration over isolated completion.

The final build was cohesive and interconnected — a powerful visual representation of Momentum in action.

Most importantly:

  • The entire audience was actively engaged
  • Cross-team alignment became visible and tangible
  • “Moving forward together” was experienced, not just discussed

The Result

The client was extremely pleased with the outcome. The session successfully translated a strategic theme into a shared, participative experience that resonated long after the conference concluded.

City Build proved to be an ideal large-scale team building solution for conferences, demonstrating how alignment, communication, and coordinated action generate true organisational momentum.

By transforming strategy into a physical, collaborative experience, we enabled over 350 delegates to experience what moving forward together truly looks like.
